The film was initially made by both Martin Bennett and myself Jay Pressnell for a exhibition at the NZ Steel Gallery called 'Franklin, the Homefront', and has now been released for the first time online.
Both Martin and I share the common connection that both of our grandfathers fought alongside each other in Montgomery's 8th Army in North Africa known as the desert rats. Since we made the film, five of the people we interviewed have unfortunately passed away. We hoped, as we do now, that the film provides the opportunity for people to reflect, to remember, to share, and to talk about with new generations as we move into an era of a greater awareness and appreciation for human connections and the need for resilience.

Tracy Tsang. Being compact but has it all. The museum is located at the busy town Welcomed by the sound of the self-service piano at the doorway, the journey into Papakura's long-gone history begins. The artifacts of the museum are true antiques that handed down by generations, carefully arranged and well presented with informative narrative. Visually visitor-friendly in all ways. As a tourist from outside of Papakura, I found it very resourceful in terms of historical collection and the story telling is engaging, you can read through the history of the region effectively.
What else i haven't mentioned? Yeah, one more detail you may like-Papakura is absolutely an amazing tourist destination, it's a hidden gem, with heaps of cafes, restaurants at a reasonable price.
