Kara, who checked us in, was charming and helpful. The hotel was lovely, well appointed, and right across from the beach and walking path in a great area of town with restaurants and coffee shops right there. The staff made our stay even more delightful. They were always greeting us with a smile and since we were traveling from Chicago, we had a lot of questions about the area. They offered many suggestions that helped us make our time there even better. I would highly recommend!

Excellent location with extremely helpful staff, comfortable, spacious and clean room. Jacuzzi a treat. Location is perfect, overlooking the beautiful Napier Esplanade.

The Econo Lodge Napier has air-conditioned accommodations just ft from the beach, a short 5-minute drive from the downtown Art Deco district and just over half a mile from the West Quay Restaurant So cozy! Best bed I've ever slept in! Extremely well kept, staff must be very house proud! Love the location as it's close enough to everything but away from the hustle and bustle of town. Every part of this visit exceeded our expectations. Such a wonderful location We hope to return to this special home one day.

Napier city is auite compact and best seen on foot. The beach is not one I would swim in but the coastline makes for a picturesque view. We only had a short stay but a real highlight was Splash Planet - a 20 minute drive away in Hastings.

This facility is brilliant; lazy river and splash area for the smaller children, hydroslides galoree for the more adventurous. Our larty ranged in age from 8 to 50 and there was plenty to keep everyone happy. Plus the grounds have large trees providing plenty of natural shade and individual areas fenced off so safety concerns for small children are minimised. And, as a final bonus the icecreams were very generous! You can take your own picnic here so you can save some of the usual expense that you get with fun parks.

We also visted Clearview winery - on the way to Cape Kidnappers. This winery has its own restaurant and was recommended by friends who live locally because it has a small playground. The staff were extremely obliging, the food was great and the wine tasting was relaxed and convivial. The children, were happily accommodated and we all enjoyed our long lunch. The men in our party were thrilled to play golf at Cape Kidnappers - evidently a stunning and challenging course.

They alos played at Bridge Pa which they also enjoyed greatly and they noted plenty of other courses for the next time!

A town certainly not to be missed from anyone's travel itinerary. We very much enjoyed the exhibition of the devastation and rebuilding of the town in the Museum. Residents recording their memories of the sudden cataclysmic earthquake, interspersed with still images and movie footage of the event was both moving and inspiring. We stayed in the very good Te Pania Hotel, excellently positioned to provide sea and park views while within very easy walking distance of the town centre.

Food at the hotel is very good indeed, but venturing into town offers an almost dizzying choice of venues.

We breakfasted at Mr. D's- wonderful! I won't even try to describe the 'vibe' but it's fun, relaxed The gardens are stunning and divide the town from the black sands of the bay. We have to return to explore further. Don't miss this gem and it's welcoming people. There are so many ice cream stores along the way that all advertise fresh fruit I can't quite remember the stores name but it is right next to Mobil as you drive into Napier and mine was delicious. The 'Six Sisters Coffee House' had a lot of history and they serve their meals on different coloured plates which was a nice twist.

Beside the coffee house is this souvenir shop which sells ONLY local goods. We then walked along Napier beach and looked at the beautiful Art Decor all along the walk way.

The vintage stores are amazing. Our hotel looked out onto the beach and we saw the sunrise. We went to the Bluff lookout and then had lunch at 'Heavens bakery and cafe'. The wine tasting at 'Mission Estate' was great and we received a wine glass as a little memento. The 'Church Road Estate' was okay but not as beautiful and historic as the previous winery we had visited. The 'Gypsy Rose Tea' was closed but there is always an opportunity to go back again.

The locals are lovely and wherever you see a group of people dining out take that as a sign to stop in and dine. These days I visit mostly in summer, loving the hot sunny days. It's a small and fairly quiet town; the art deco architecture and the wineries are two of the main tourist highlights.
